Meet the Artist
Hi there! I'm Grumpers, formally known as Lauren, and I am a tattoo apprentice from Clitheroe, Lancashire but work in Blackburn. Before I could speak, I had a pencil in my hand and was destined for a career in the art field, leading to studying art full time immediately after finishing secondary school. Ultimately being awarded a First Class Degree in Fine Art at Leeds Beckett University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Practices at Leeds Arts University. At the time I specialised in politics and activist art, vastly different to the career I'm in now! I also have a 1 year old mini dachshund called Frank, not because he's a Frankfurter shaped dog, because of Frank Iero because I love My Chemical Romance that much.
After a year of working, I decided I wanted to go back to my childhood dreams of being a tattoo artist from watching the likes of Ami James and Kat Von D on their infamous reality shows. I approached AmyNautTattoos, my tattoo artist and friend, for advice on how to start an apprenticeship. Originally, I was offered work experience and guidance on how to build a portfolio to show other shops. But after 7 months of hard work and dedication, in November 2023, I was officially offered an apprentice position at Year 23 Tattoo in Blackburn, Lancashire.
My approach to tattooing is to become an all rounder, from realism to traditional tattoos, I want clients to be fully confident that they can approach me with their requests and know they will get good results. As well as a relaxing (well, as relaxing as it can be) and enjoyable experience.
Along with a great experience, all clients need a clean environment and an artist who is well aware of the risks around tattooing. I am Hepatitis B vaccinated, trained in Blood Bourne Pathogens (BBPs), tattoo sides effects including allergic reactions, and qualified in Tattoo Infection Control. Consistently, I ensure not only my space, but the entire studio is exceeding licensing regulations so it is a safe space for anyone and everyone who walks through our door. I officially recieved my license to tattoo in November 2024, after a rigorous assessment by Blackburn with Darwen council who commented on our thorough cleaning and knowledge at Year 23!
If tattoos aren't for you, I also enjoy making other art that isn't as permanent in the likes of shirts, tracksuits, prints and even original paintings! You can check them out on this website, which will constantly be updated with new pieces as soon as I've ensured they're the best quality they can be!
I look forward to every request that comes through my inbox, and hopefully you're next! You can contact me via socials or via email [email protected]
